By supporting Opéra De-Ci De-Là, Total Foundation and AMMODO promote artistic creation by young opera makers and support the emergence of new, innovative and inclusive artistic projects.
This programme trains young artists from all backgrounds—instrumentalists, soloists, stage directors, composers, and authors—via the creation of collaborative and immersive mini-operas.
During the interdisciplinary residency, new narratives are created that are in tune with today’s world, which are then performed for audiences in the city of Aix in atypical venues that are usually not utilized for the performing arts.
For Mécénat Musical Société Générale, sponsoring music is first and foremost about supporting young musicians—i.e., the promising talents of today who will become the great artists of tomorrow. By supporting the Mediterranean Youth Orchestra, this major sponsor of classical music in France helps promote the career development and professional training of young artists from 20 different Mediterranean countries. Since 2014, the Festival d’Aix has hosted, supported and trained roughly 100 artists every year in high-level residencies: the symphonic session, led by Duncan Ward, and the Medinea sessions, led by Fabrizio Cassol.
Through their support of Kaija Saariaho’s Innocence, THE KAROLINA BLABERG STIFTUNG, JEAN-FRANÇOIS DUBOS, AMMODO and CLAUDE AND TUULIKKI JANSSEN are helping to write a new page in the history of opera.
The Festival d’Aix’s major donors and foundations contribute directly to realizing the Festival’s policy of commissioning works, and to its unending search for innovative and interdisciplinary forms. Innocence, a world premiere commissioned and coproduced by the Festival d’Aix, is an epic drama—a contemporary tragedy made radiant through its powerful music and the intermingling of words from different languages.
VINCENT MEYER: The musical language of an exceptional composer is universal, because it will survive a journey through time and space. Sébastien and Silvia’s project, constructed around Monteverdi’s Combattimento, illustrates the notion of stylistic and aesthetic freedom that is characteristic of the baroque movement. Here, it was Sébastien’s and Silvia’s personalities and the dynamics of this project that appealed to me. SÉBASTIEN DAUCÉ: Time only leaves dust on things that are not watched. When I discover an unknown score, I see it as the thought of an artist, of a creator who has come before me. In the twenty-first century, projects that don’t fit easily into an existing “box” are unlikely to see the light of day.
